Antique American Clocks February 2023
AD-19. $25
Seth Thomas “Octagon Top D”, ca. 1875. Past NAWCC
President (1985-1987) Owen Burt wrote the definitive treatise on Seth Thomas cottage clocks, published in three parts in issues 312,313,
and 314 (Vol. 40, NAWCC Bulletin, 1998). He detailed when the cases, movements, and labels were made. While I don’t have the
time to figure out when each of these cottage clocks was made, a previous owner worked it out for this clock, as shown on the back
of the case. The walnut case is 9 inches tall with old glasses and a repainted dial, and ST hands. The Type D 30-hour,
time-only movement is signed Plymouth Conn and is running without problem. The label is Thomaston. Only $25 to start. Worth way more than that. $25-$100.
