RP-8. $25
Jerome & Co. lever spring with porcelain
dial surround, ca. 1850. This is likely a clock made by one of the Jerome firms for export to England; I cannot find any like
examples on the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide or LiveAuctioneers. From the labeling on the back it is clear
that this clock was sold and serviced in England. The porcelain dial-surround is 9.5-inches wide with gilt decorations and some
discoloration and crazing. The dial glass is modern in a tarnished brass bezel; the 5-inch dial appears to be old/original paper
with paint touch-up. The “Jerome Forestville” has been strengthened if not invented, as Jerome did not use Forestville as a
location to my knowledge (Forestville is located just east of Bristol, where Jerome did have clock factories until 1845). The
hands are most likely replacements. The 8-day, time-only, lever-spring movement is not signed on the back; it is running with
authority. An uncommon clock, for sure. $25–$150.
