246.             $100

E.N. Welch “Round Corner Octagon Lever”, ca. 1878. A 9-inch diameter case (5-inch dial) with rosewood veneer in an old, dark finish.  The dial glass is old, either replaced or reputtied rather poorly, the painted dial with some chipping and fading. The hands are period although the seconds hand is a replacement, and the minute hand has been repaired.  An E.N. Welch imprint is faintly visible above the mainstem on the dial and there is a dark label on the back.  The consignor believes this was made by JC Brown and sold by Welch.  The unsigned 30-hour, time-only lever (marine) movement is running when lying on its back but stops when you stand it up.  Sometimes I feel the same way, and I’m not 150 years old.  Few sales of this model, and none recent.  $100-$150.
