235.              $100

Barrel clock, ca. 1900.  Yes, of course you need this, that’s not really the question, is it?  Even your wife agrees you need this.  The question is, where will you put it?  But I would argue that even that’s not a problem – you will find a place for it.  It stands 33 inches tall and 23 inches wide, in oak with a “Mission-style” appearance including a very old and likely original finish.  The barrel has iron bands just like a real barrel (and in Kentucky, we know barrels) but the inside has not been fired, so it never held bourbon. It does hold a Waterbury Clock Co. 8-day, time and half-hour strike signed movement that is running and striking, with again, a Mission-style pendulum.  The face features two monks drinking beer across a table (or barrel); the monks are outlined by incising and darker staining of the surround, and this includes the numbers in the chapter ring.  The hands are modern replacements, but well done. There is no label, but Schmitt’s sold one in 2016 that they said was from C.A. Warner & Co. in New York city.  It sold for $130.  Horton’s had one years ago.  He probably still does.  $100-$200.
