227. $1800
Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 257”, ca. 1914. A second 8-bell Sonora chime (with #226), 12 inches tall by 17 inches wide in patterned mahogany with a superb finish. The signed
silvered dial shows almost no wear, the hands are correct, the dial glass is convex. It plays either Westminster or Whittington
chimes (you select by the lever on the back right), or you can run it without it chiming (why would you do that?). The 8-day
movement is running without problem. You can’t beat the sound of Sonora chimes. AAC sold two Sonora 8-bell chime clocks
in 2012 for $1857 and $2046. $1800-$2000.
