L.F. & W.W. Carter “Carter Calendar” in
a B.B. Lewis Calendar No. 2 case, 1862-1868. Easily the nicest example I have seen of this weight-driven wall calendar. The mahogany veneer on the 32-inch case is near perfect, clean and bright. Both glasses are old, both dials professionally repainted. All hands are correct. The 8-day, time-only, unsigned movement is driven by two proper round 3.5-lb cast iron weights and is
running reliably; the weekday and date calendar hands are advancing as expected. There is a good label inside, and a good label
on the calendar door indicating that B.B. Lewis manufactured the calendar mechanism, rather than Elias Burwell, who later obtained
the rights from Lewis to manufacture the Lewis calendar. Thus, this is likely an early Carter calendar clock. There is
a key and working latch for the calendar door. I don’t believe I’ve ever come across one of these that didn’t have problems,
until now. AAC sold a lesser example last January for $400. $500-$800.
