204.             $500

Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 9 Hanging Cottage”, 1877-1900.  A 29-inch walnut case with burl panels on the door, two old glasses and a very old and worn paper dial mask. This is the earlier model with the “onion” top; the four side finials are improper replacements.  The center top finial is correct, the base finial has been broken off and reattached.  The hands are correct.  This example had an alarm which has been removed (note the screw holes on the bottom left of the front interior and the corresponding winding port in the dial mask.  The Welch movement lacks the calendar arm and connection to the (missing) alarm and may be a replacement movement.  It is running and striking on the repositioned cathedral gong, which is normally mounted to the seat board.  The movement is also missing the calendar lift arm and calendar connection, so the calendar, which appears to be functional, is not.  The backboard has been replaced and there are no labels.  On the positive side, the pendulum bob is nickel and correct.  This is a relatively rare model, with only two recent sales, one at Harris for $700 and one at Schmitt Horan for $1300, both last year.  $500-$700.
