Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 2 ˝ Brisbane”, 1880-1910. Looks like a modern reproduction in oak, right? Nope. This is a rare ash version of this large, spring-driven calendar
clock; the refinished case looks like oak, as both are a light-colored wood when unstained. Ash graining is often straighter
than that seen in oak, but I think that takes an expert eye to discern. I rely on Joel Warren, who states that ICCC made this
model in walnut and ash (Warren, Ithaca’s Clock Makers). The case is 40 inches long and 7 inches deep; the door glass is modern
and the drop finials at the bottom are not quite right. Both dials are paper, possibly original, on zinc plates; the hands are
proper, but the brass calendar hand may be a replacement. The wooden pendulum is proper. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement
was made by Welch for ICCC; it is running, striking on the wire gong, and the calendar is advancing strongly. There are numerous
service notations inside the case and on the back, most notably by H. Dean, a former employee of ICCC. Ralph Fontaine sold a
misidentified ash version of this clock last year for $1300, the only ash sales example I can find. AAC sold a walnut example
last January for $2278. $1500-$2000.
