196. $400
Unknown maker wood-front banjo, ca. 1840. A 32.5-inch case veneered in flame mahogany with a clean finish, carved side-arms, and a wooden finial. The dial glass is a
replacement, the metal dial was repainted some time ago and shows some soiling. The hands are original/correct. The movement
is typical, unsigned, and is running; the brass pendulum bob is suspended on a metal rod and the banjo weight is iron. A tin
weight shield at the bottom, with the pendulum tie-down fitting lost. This is a nice example of this style of early banjo. I can’t find any good sales records for a similar clock, so we’ll start at $400. $400-$1000.
