Austin Chittenden 30-hour hollow-column shelf
clock, 1831-1837. A 31-inch case with dark mahogany veneer, with one repair on the door frame at the left. The veneer
on the full (hollow) columns is figured mahogany in outstanding condition. The dial glass and mirror are original, the lower
door glass a beautiful reverse-painted tablet on old glass. The small wooden dial has likely been repainted, the hands are period
and correct. The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking, with two round iron 3 lb weights. The
paper label is a bit beat up, but sufficient. I’ve found but four hollow column clocks by Chittenden on LiveAuctioneers and
the Antique Clocks Price Guide, with one selling at RO Schmitt in 2016 for $600 (and it had some missing case parts). $500-$1000.
