175. $350
Jeromes’ & Darrow 8-day shelf clock, ca.1830. A 40.5-inch case with elaborately carved half-columns and splat. A veneer chip at the upper left, some veneer repairs,
dust covers on the pulleys and the original wooden pulleys inside. The three glasses are original, with the original putty,
but the two tablets were repainted by Tom Moberg. The wooden dial is very yellowed, but it should clean up; note the star designs
between the numerals. This is a nice dial; the hands are brass. The 30-hour, short-drop wooden movement was modified with
an additional arbor to yield an 8-day run with compounded weights (not included, but 8-day wooden works weights are available for
purchase for $75) in the 40-inch case. Unfortunately, the 1830’s label has been lost, but there is not much doubt that this
is from Jerome’s and Darrow, based on similar clocks; see, for example, this clock that sold at Fontaine's in 2021 for $400. $350-$500.
