142.             $500

E. N. Welch “Four-post Crystal Palace”, ca. 1886. No, not Ansonia, Welch.  Welch appears to have marketed two crystal palaces; one is shown in Ly’s book Welch Clocks, Second Edition, page 484, and this is the second model, not shown in Welch catalogs.  I can find two other examples; one sold at R.O. Schmitt in 2002, and the second sold at Schmidt’s in 2020 for $750.  Since all three examples are different, that means no less than three of these were made.  Do you have one?  Send me a picture!  The clock stands 17.5 inches tall and the glass dome adds another 2 inches.  The wood appears to be mahogany; the dial is old, yellowed paper.  There is new braided rope in the two rings on the base.  I’m not sure why there are two unless it is to accommodate two different sized domes.  The clock is running and striking on the nickel bell.  There is no label.  This is a nice example of a rare clock.  $500-$1000.
