138.              $125

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Empire No. 65” crystal regulator, ca. 1909.  An 11-inch-tall case, 9.25 inches wide, in a polished gold case with four side columns and a bowed front glass, with all glasses beveled.  The gold finish here has been polished off, leaving a dark brass base; the top is especially tarnished.  The dial is cream porcelain, signed and decorated, with proper hands.  The dial is slightly out of plumb, as is the movement, explaining why it doesn’t really want to run.  The movement is a time and half-hour strike described in the catalog as a “High grade movement, steel cut pinions and spring in barrels”; it strikes on a cathedral gong.  ST put both 15-day and 8-day movements in this model, and I did not determine which was used here.  A similar example sold at John McInnis Auctions in 2015 for $200.  $125-$200.
