124. $225
Wm. S. Johnson fusee box clock, 1841-1848. An 18-inch
bevel-front case with mahogany veneer all around; the finish is glossy and there are cracks and possible repairs to the veneer. Both glasses are original with outstanding retention of color and design. The dial is wood with a large opening to display the
brass movement, with noticeable losses on the bottom portion. The hands are period. The 30-hour time-and-strike double-fusee
movement is signed ‘Chauncey Boardman’ on the left fusee attachment; it is running and striking admirably. The label is a bit
tattered, but the necessary information is there; Johnson was a successful retailer in New York city, buying movements from Connecticut
makers (mostly Boardman) and having cases made. AAC sold a less colorful example last January for $288. Check out that
Baltimore oriole on the tablet. $225-$400.
