Seth Thomas “Column Strike”, ca. 1863. We know this is
an early model because it has “Plymouth Conn” stamped on the movement and a label that says Plymouth Hollow. The 32-inch case
is veneered in rosewood, scrupulously cleaned, with shell columns, gilt caps, and three original glasses with very well-preserved
tablets. The bottom tablet is frequently seen on Seth Thomas clocks, but I have not seen the middle tablet on an ST clock before. There is some flaking and repair to the columns, especially the right column, and the caps have been repainted. The painted
dial is clean with little chipping and the hands are correct. The 8-day time-and-strike movement runs for a while and then peters
out, it will strike. Service is needed. There are two period and correct weights and an excellent label. $200-$400.
