112.              $325

Birge, Mallory & Co. “Patent Brass Eight Day Clock”, 1838-1843.  A 37-inch case with a light-colored veneer, figured on the columns and corbels.  The three glasses are original, but the tablets appear to be old in-door repaints.  Both are starting to flake again.  The wood dial has been repainted, the hands are likely original.  The large, strap-brass 8-day, time-and-strike movement is stamped “BM&Co” and is running and striking without problem; there are two square, tall, 8-day weights (with cutouts in the bottom of the case to extend the run) and a period pendulum bob.  A very nice label inside.  Not factory original, but very nice.  Two sales of very similar examples this year at Conestoga Auction Co. for $325 and $425.  $325-$425.
