C. & L.C. Ives “Patent Brass Eight Day Clock”, 1830-1833. A 37-inch case veneered in mahogany (note the burled veneer on the sides of the bottom section) with carved columns and splat. Claw feet in front and square feet in back, all original.  The dial glass is old, not glazed into place, the center mirror likely original, and the tablet a modern replacement.  An ivory escutcheon with key, but the latch doesn’t work.  The wooden dial shows a lot of wear and fading.  The drop mirror behind the dial is missing and the cardboard holder is mostly gone.  The delicate hands are unusual and likely original.  The 8-day, time-and-strike strap-brass movement has pewter drums and is running and striking on a large iron bell.  Two 9-lb iron weights, a period pendulum bob and a crank complete the ensemble.  The label is torn and was once papered over with wallpaper.  The clock was made for the retailers Davis & Barber who had a shop in Bristol, but they shipped the parts to Greensboro GA for assembly, making this a Southern clock, I guess.  $225-$400.
