96.            $150

American Clock Co. “Arbor” iron-front, 1850-1864. A 20-inch iron-front from a big marketer of iron-front clocks.  ACC was formed to sell clocks from the Connecticut manufacturers in New York city, selling the clocks under the ACC label from a store on Cortlandt St.  It appears the company was sold in 1864 but continued to sell clocks with new owners from a store on Broadway and in Chicago until 1879.  The remains of the label on this clock indicate that it was sold from the Cortlandt address.  This is a large and heavy iron-front with very good color, especially the flowers below the dial.  There is also good retention of the gilding on the sculpturing.  There is an old paper dial with old glass in the bezel; the hands are appropriate, the minute hand a modern replacement.  The porthole bezel hinge is not secure.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, running and striking on a wire gong; the pendulum bob is new.  There are service inscriptions on the back of the dial from the late 1800’s and a foundry stamp on the bottom back of the casting: “No 2 F.S. Otis patent NY 1857”.  $150-$250.
