87.             $150

Terry & Barnum Manufacturing Co. “Washington”, 1854.  P.T. Barnum bought out the Ansonia Clock Co. stock after its factory was destroyed by fire.  The firm lasted only a year when it merged with Litchfield Manufacturing Co., and it was then sold to Jerome Mfg Co. in 1855.  A very rare label. This is one of the more common iron-front models, standing 20 inches tall and 18 inches wide.  The floral decorations are bright but have been expertly touched up where chipping has occurred, and some of the gilding has also been retouched.  Both glasses are old and likely original, with the original putty holding the dial glass in place.  The dial has been repainted, the period hands repainted as well.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, it is running but the lift arms for the strike need adjustment.  There is a good but dark label inside; I can find no Terry & Barnum Mfg. Co. sales in the Antique Clocks Price Guide, and only one example on LiveAuctioneers, also an iron-front.  $150-$300.
