E. Ingraham Co. “Admiral Dewey”, ca. 1899. One of several clocks
commemorating the Spanish-American War; Commodore George Dewey was a hero for destroying the Spanish fleet in Manila Bay, Philippines. The 23-inch pressed oak case has been cleaned but not quite refinished. It displays cannon balls, anchors, and stars at the
top and on the base. There is a second version of this clock with a different pattern on the crest. The door glass is
original, displaying Commodore Dewey’s ship, the Olympia. The dial is paper, signed and very yellowed, the hands are correct. The signed 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement is running and striking on a wire gong mounted on a signed gong base. The
pendulum is a special issue that went with this clock. AAC sold two examples of this model in 2020 for $200 and $228. $150-$225.
