66.               $250

Wm. Gilbert Clock Co. “Long Branch”, ca.1895.  Just under 29 inches with the all-important center finial.  The case is oak with a thick finish and dark stain and lots of rope-turn columns, knobs, and buttons.  Compare with the walnut calendar model in this auction (#30).  Gilbert made three models in this style, all with the same interesting glass, and all are listed in this auction (#67 and #68).  The door glass is original, with a gold stencil and the words “Farmers’ Exchange” that I have not seen on other examples.  I’m thinking that was a bank.  The dial is paper with some age and discoloration, the hands are appropriate.  The movement is signed, runs 8 days with a half-hour strike on a Gilbert cathedral gong.  It is running but out of plumb.   A partial label on the back.  Page 331 of Ly’s book, Gilbert Clocks.  I’m surprised how uncommon this model is; the most recent sale on LiveAuctioneers was in 2014 at Tom Harris for $400 (several more recent sales were of examples that lacked the proper top ornaments). $250-$400.
