62.             $250

Seth Thomas “Utica”, 1885.  A ‘city series’ clock, meaning well made and attractive cases and reliable, heavy-duty movements.  The Utica is 22 inches tall in walnut with a clean finish.  The carvings at the top are notable, as are the side arms.  The door glass is old, the silver stencil has little wear; the door opens with a push-button on the side.  The dial is clean paper, and this is the one flaw I can find – ST did not use paper dials.  The hands are correct.  The 8-day, time-and-strike ST lyre movement is running and striking, and there is a damascened pendulum bob.  There is a black label on the inside bottom and the date of manufacture is stamped on the back of the case.  Fontaine’s sold a nice example in 2020 for $350.  $250-$400.
