57.              $400

Seth Thomas pillar & scroll, 1822-1826. An early pillar & scroll from Eli Terry’s Padawan; note that the label fails to note Mr. Terry’s patent, leading to a legal dispute that was resolved in 1827 when Thomas agreed to add patent information to his labels.  The clock is 31 inches tall with a clean finish; the left scroll tip has been repaired.  The brass urn finials are on steel posts and are the proper ST style.  Both glasses are replacements, the tablet painted by an unnamed artist; I like the Kentucky blue roof.  There is a crack at the bottom of the lower glass.  The wooden dial is clean, with a decoration immediately below the mainstem.  The hands are a matched set, but the minute hand seems too short.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking, as are all Jeff Villet-restored clock movements.  There are two old weights, an old pendulum bob, winding crank, new dust covers on top, and a door key for the working latch.  The label is dark and torn, but it tells the story.  $400-$750.
