56.               $400

Samuel Terry for George Mitchell, pillar & scroll, 1828-1835.  In 1828 Terry left Plymouth for Bristol (just down the road), working on his own and making some clocks for retailers like George Mitchell.  The 31-inch case is clean and without breaks or losses; the dial glass is old, the lower glass modern with an unsigned but impressive tablet.  The brass urn finials are on wooden posts and the original pulley dust covers are present.  The dial is clean and the hands period.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking, as are all movements restored by Jeff Villet.  A very good label inside, along with two old weights, a crank, an old pendulum bob and a door key for the working latch.  $400-$600.
