49.              $500

Forestville Manufacturing Co. ripple-front sharp gothic, 1842-1849.  A 20-inch steeple in mahogany with an old finish and good patina.  Three is good ripple trim around the front and proper period finials.  If you haven’t paid attention to ripple trim before, now is a good opportunity to compare some of the different types – and there are many.  Compare this clock with #45 and #48.  The dial glass and tablet on this clock are likely original, with the delicate milk glass coating remaining strong and the image still visible.  The dial has been repainted, including the signature of J.C. Brown.  The hands are modern but proper replacements.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is stamped “Forestville M.F.G. Co” and is running strongly and striking the wire gong on the hour.  The label is yellowed and toasted, but legible.  This is a nice example.  $500-$800.
