45.               $450

Forestville Manufacturing Co. ripple-front round gothic, 1842-1849.  A 19-inch case in mahogany with ripple trim around the front, including the door frame.  The case and veneer show a bit of bashing along the back edge, and the veneer could stand to be cleaned and polished.  The dial glass is original, the frosted glass tablet is a modern replacement, the glass door latch is, well, unusual.  The painted dial is quite original, with considerable chipping and discoloration; it bears the J.C. Brown signature.  The minute hand is a close, but improper replacement.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is stamped “Forestville M.F.G. Co.  It will run for a while.  The wire gong strike is enthusiastic.  The paper label is a bit stained and tattered, listing J.C. Brown and dating the clock to the 1840’s.  AAC sold a similar example two years ago for $500.  $450-$750.
