Antique American Clocks July 2022
32. $750
Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “Large Index”, 1882-1898. A 33-inch walnut case that has been exquisitely refinished to look like new. It is not. The door glass is old, the ‘Index’
lettering is correct and original to this model (see Warren, Ithaca’s Clock Makers, page 135). The dials are paper, replaced
a while ago; the calendar dial shows that this clock was made for the Lynch Brothers and marketed in competition with Fashion clocks. The hands are correct. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement was made by Welch for ICCC and has the club teeth on the escape wheel. The pendulum hanger is correct, the bob is nickel, as is the very large bell in this model (Ithaca also made a slightly smaller version
of this model with different molding and crest). The clock is running strongly and the calendar is advancing; the day and month
roller covers have been replaced, not quite to specs. A very nice example, and markedly less common than smaller version. Cottone’s sold a nice example in 2016 for $1000. $750-$1000.
