Antique American Clocks July 2022
23. $750
Boston Clock Co. wall regulator, 1884-1894. This clock
is often confused with the Pendulum No. 1, but it has a carved bottom bracket. The 38-inch case is cherry with a beautiful patina;
both glasses are likely original, with the original tablet discolored from age. The 12-inch painted dial is signed, and the
hands are likely original. The dial may have been repainted. The 8-day, time-only movement is signed (behind the pendulum
stick) and is driven by a large cast iron weight with BCCo imprinted on the front, but I can’t keep it running. The pendulum
bob is damascened and there is a wooden weight shield and pendulum tie-down. There are half-a-dozen sales of this model over
the past few decades, with the most recent in 2018 at RO Schmitt’s for $700. That seems like a steal to me for such a fine clock
– this one was once owned by John Delaney. $750-$1000.
